Older homes settle, which means uneven walls and non-planed floors, and out-of-square corners. This is tricky for tile. This client wanted a tile baseboard. I ended up free-handing the toilet drain opening cut with a black widow blade on the angle grinder. I used a polymer-modified mortar, which was sufficient for the baseboard. Because these had to be bedded-out, floated from the wall, to be straight against a wavy wall, I used dollops of that mortar, and back-filled with grout a bit. They’re sturdy. Lastly, this Daltile was not the highest-end, and the cross-section was terracotta color. So, I built a berm or half-mitered joint on the top, to conceal that edge.
