We chose not to use edging around the notch or inset on this. Older homes tend to be out of square, or otherwise not flat or plumb. This can make planing-off tile surfaces tricky. This job was such a home.
Like the recent work in Newark, CA, this install required on-site fabrication.
The trick to marble is to match the marbling – and that’s usually done by the stone-cutter or quarry. Waterfall edge countertops are tricky. You need a beveled cut, to begin with. Just what it looks like. Not a square, right, or plumb angle in this house, right on the San Andreas. The wall line was askew a few degrees, from the tile line, which the front face sat in. So I had to manufacture angled pieces for the back section (against the wall).
